🌿 Welcome to the Willows Room
The Willows is where our youngest children begin their journey at Wood Street Nursery. Children can join us from 11 months old, remaining in the Willows until they transition to the Chestnuts Room at age two.
A Typical Day in the Willows
Our day starts at 8:00 AM, with breakfast offered on a rolling basis until 8:45 AM, allowing children to settle in comfortably as they arrive.
We make the most of our outdoor garden, which is open throughout the day — rain or shine. Outdoor play is an essential part of our routine, encouraging exploration and a connection with nature.
- 9:15 AM: Morning snack
- 11:30 AM: Group singing session
- 11:45 AM: Lunch
- 12:15 PM onward: Nap time for those who need rest
- 3:15 PM: Afternoon tea
Free-Flow Play
We encourage free-flow play throughout the day, giving children the freedom to explore different areas of the room, choose their own activities, and develop confidence and independence. This approach also helps children build relationships with staff and peers in a calm, welcoming environment.
Trips and Excursions
Our Willows children enjoy weekly outings to local places such as Lancaster’s Home & Garden, Wood Street Indoor Market, and nearby shops. These short trips offer enriching experiences beyond the nursery and help children develop a broader understanding of the world around them.
Music and Movement
Every Monday, we welcome Lucy Sparkles & Friends to deliver engaging music and dance sessions. These interactive classes promote physical, emotional, and intellectual development — all while having fun! Children gain confidence through rhythm, movement, and imaginative play.
