Oaks

Welcome to Oaks!

This is our Pre-School Room, where children aged 3 to 5 years old engage in independent learning with guided supervision from our staff. In this room, nearly everything is done by the children themselves. They have access to play, arts and crafts, and messy play equipment, which they can use freely throughout the day. The children are also responsible for cleaning up and putting away all activities they use.

A Typical Day in Oaks

  • Breakfast is served from 8:00 to 8:45 AM on a rolling basis, so children can join when they’re ready and enjoy a nutritious meal with us.
  • Snack is served at 9:45 AM, and the children can freely choose from a variety of fruit, rice cakes, breadsticks, and oatcakes, cutting their own fruit as desired.
  • Lunch is served at 12:30 PM.
  • Afternoon tea is served at 3:45 PM.

Forest School

We have Forest School once a week at Greenway Avenue Community Garden, where children can explore and engage with nature.

Free Flow Play

Free-flow play is always encouraged, allowing children to explore the room, discover new learning experiences, and build a sense of community with both our staff and peers.

Outdoor Play

Our garden is open year-round, and we value our outdoor space, providing children with the opportunity to play in nature throughout the seasons.

Treasures from Home

In the Oaks Room, we have a special activity called “Treasures from Home.” Children are invited to bring in a toy or object from home and share it with their friends, explaining why it is a “treasure” to them. This activity is especially helpful during transitions, as the home toy provides comfort. It also encourages communication, as children are invited to ask and answer questions, fostering a sense of community among the children. This is a daily activity, and any child who wishes to participate can do so.

Trips and Excursions

We take trips at least once or twice a week, sometimes more depending on the season. These outings include visits to Greenway Avenue Community Garden, Wood Street Library and Playground, Lancaster’s Home & Garden, Wood Street Indoor Market, and local shops. These experiences help children connect with the world around them and learn through exploration.

Music and Dance

Every Monday, we have music and dance sessions with the wonderful Lucy Sparkles & Friends. These sessions are designed to engage the children in fun, meaningful lessons that enhance their physical, emotional, and intellectual skills, all while fostering a love for drama, music, and dance.
