Meals at Wood Street Nursery
Breakfast time
At Wood Street Nursery, we start the day with a wholesome breakfast served from 8:00 to 8:45 AM. Children can enjoy a variety of options, including natural yoghurt with berry compote, whole meal toast, apple and cinnamon porridge, Weetabix with bananas, toasted brown soda bread with cheddar, or free-range boiled eggs with English muffins.
Lunch time
At lunch, children are first offered a selection of fresh crudités, including cucumber, mixed peppers, tomatoes, and carrots. This encourages healthy eating while giving children time to socialise with friends. It also provides an opportunity for them to explore different textures and flavors in a relaxed, fun way. This start helps establish positive habits.
Snack and Tea time
Snacks for Chestnut and Oak children are optional and include seasonal fruits and vegetables, multigrain crackers, rice cakes with butter or cream cheese, or a vegan alternative. After naptime, the Willows and Chestnuts are offered a drink and a cracker. Water is always accessible, and milk is provided for afternoon snacks.
Learning Through Doing
At Wood Street Nursery, we believe in learning through doing — and that includes meal times. Children are encouraged to take an active role in preparing their own food. They cut fruit and vegetables, butter crackers, and wash their own plates, all under close supervision from our staff. These simple tasks help build important life skills, promote independence, and teach responsibility in a safe, supportive environment. Meal times are also a key social moment. Our staff sit with the children and eat the same meals, creating a shared experience that fosters connection, conversation, and confidence.
Menus may vary slightly based on seasonal availability and fresh ingredients. See this week’s menu below.
