Welcome to Chestnuts!
This is our Toddler Room, where children aged 2 to 3 years old begin their journey toward independent learning. In this room, children’s development takes a significant step forward as they explore, create, and grow. In line with our ethos, our staff are dedicated to supporting each child’s imagination and learning, encouraging them to learn through play while seizing every moment to help them progress at their own pace.
A Typical Day at Chestnuts
- Our day starts with breakfast from 8:00 to 8:45 AM, open to all children who wish to participate.
- A morning snack follows at 9:30 AM. During this time, the children can freely choose to prepare their own snacks by cutting fruit and vegetables, buttering crackers or rice cakes, and washing their dishes afterward (always under supervision).
- At 11:45 AM, our Chestnuts enjoy a “Little Listeners” group, where we participate in singing and spend time with each child’s key worker. This provides a space to talk about the day, share feelings, and assist with transitions.
- Lunch is served at 12:00 PM, followed by naptime for those who need it.
- Afternoon tea is served at 3:30 PM.
Free Flow Play
Throughout the day, we offer free-flow play, giving children the freedom to explore the room, engage in different learning experiences, and build a sense of community with their peers and our staff.
Outdoor Play
Our garden is open year-round, and we place great value on outdoor play. Children are encouraged to explore and learn in nature, no matter the season.
Trips and Excursions
We take trips at least once or twice a week, sometimes more depending on the season. These outings include visits to Greenway Avenue Community Garden, Wood Street Library and Playground, Lancaster’s Home & Garden, Wood Street Indoor Market, and local shops. These experiences help children connect with the world around them and learn through exploration.
Music and Dance
Every Monday, we have music and dance sessions with the wonderful Lucy Sparkles & Friends. These sessions are designed to engage the children in fun, meaningful lessons that enhance their physical, emotional, and intellectual skills, all while fostering a love for drama, music, and dance.
